  • Reuse of an historic structure of 8,000 sf

Design

Through an alliance of Historic Boston Inc. and Roslindale Village Main Streets, this study evaluates renovation and reuse of the former MBTA substation, originally built in 1912 to power trolley lines through Boston’s outlying neighborhoods. Proposed uses include a Saturday Farmer Market and evening event hall. Building evaluation addresses: restoration of the exterior envelope with roof and masonry wall repairs, replacement of historic monumental wood windows, and accessibility provisions. Principles of stewardship and renewal inform the study criteria.
