Alarmed by a the typical mobile home's lack of engagement with a particular site, Lara Belkind proposes a prototype house which incorporates private exterior spaces in its own design. When stacked in the site plan, the the individual units lock together creating a series of protected courtyards which are woven into the spaces of the house. Where vernacular landscape strategies tend to negotiate the section between the interior floor and the ground, Belkind's project suggests that "groundedness" might be better achieved by engaging the horizontal living plane, extending the living spaces of the mobile home out into the landscape.
